Building Coalition: How we do our work post-election
Join NCLR’s President, Imani Rupert-Gordon and Vice President of Legal, Shannon Minter, on Wednesday, November 20, to discuss what NCLR work looks like in this new climate. With our strong history working in reproductive, immigration and transgender rights, we feel the attacks of this new administration at every turn. Shannon and Imani will spend 30 minutes sharing our thoughts and strategy for continuing to grow support and protections for the LGBTQ community.
Following this conversation, we are excited to partner with Family Equality, Movement Advancement Project, and GLAD Law for a conversation focused on Marriage and Family Protections. Join experts from each organization in a one-hour conversation moderated by Shannon Minter to try to answer your concerns and questions.

NCLR Joins Statement from LGBTQ Organizations Committed to Advancing Our Freedom Beyond the 2024 Elections
The LGBTQ community has a long history of never backing down from a fight for our rights. United in our strength, during the most difficult of times, we have pushed forward and achieved significant progress for decades. This moment feels uniquely challenging. But we have been here before, up against what feels like insurmountable oppositional forces.
And each time, we must reckon with the reality that the way we see the world — one of kindness and bounty, justice and equity, a world where queer excellence and joy are folded into the fabric of daily life — is not universally shared, we hurt. We are worried for our friends and family most vulnerable to hate. And we need to fight. Tirelessly and together.
But for today, commit. To your neighbors, to safety for all, to justice.
We got us.
Transgender Day of Remembrance
November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), a day dedicated to honoring the memory of transgender individuals whose lives were lost as a result of anti-transgender violence.
On this day we also reflect on the transgender community’s incredible strength and resilience. Over the last few years, transgender youth and adults have faced an increasingly challenging political landscape. We all need to be intentional about showing up for our trans siblings no matter how strong the trans community has shown itself to be.
For this year’s TDOR, join us in supporting community organizations that provide lifesaving mutual aid and resources for transgender individuals such as The Mahogany Project, Organización Latina Trans in Texas, My Sistah’s House-Memphis, and the Iowa Transgender Mutual Aid Fund.
Imani Rupert-Gordon to Join Panel of LGBTQ Leaders
Given the Election Day results, it’s clear that the LGBTQ movement can expect to confront overwhelming challenges. The political right is sharpening its plans for putting their alarming agenda into action, and is sure to keep dividing the nation with anti-LGBTQ legislation. The Supreme Court is strangling our rights. How can our community rise to this moment, show up collectively, and fight back? How can we move—together—from reactive to active in the face of the inevitable coming attacks? What lessons can we learn from the times and places we’ve played offense? Join our President Imani Rupert-Gordon on Thursday, November 21 from 5:00 to 6:30 pm PT for Horizons Foundation’s Annual State of the Movement: Our Collective Power, a free, virtual discussion and Q&A also featuring Hutch Hutchins, Executive Director of Equality Federation; Andy Marra, CEO of Advocates for Trans Equality; and Ricardo Martinez, Executive Director of GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders.
Thursday, November 21 / 5:00–6:30pm PT

U.S. v. Skrmetti Supreme Court Oral Argument — December 4, 2024
This summer, SCOTUS decided to review a disappointing Sixth Circuit opinion reversing two lower court decisions to strike down Tennessee and Kentucky laws that prevent transgender youth from receiving medically needed care. These laws discriminate against transgender people. They don’t ban medications for all youth, but only when they are prescribed for transgender youth.
Our legal team is honored to represent the Kentucky families who are fighting so bravely for their children’s right to healthcare. The plaintiffs in the case are six transgender youth and their families, represented by the ACLU of Kentucky, NCLR, Morgan Lewis, and Jenner & Block LLP.
Florida Rural Pride
In collaboration with our Florida-based partners, NCLR is convening a day-long, in-person Rural Pride Summit in Gainesville on December 6, 2024. The summit aims to bring community members and leaders together with national and state groups to build and strengthen relationships, raise the profile of the issues that matter to rural communities, and learn from and support each other. We invite all those interested in participating in the summit to register. Registration is free.
Florida’s LGBTQ and Rural communities have shown tremendous resourcefulness, creativity and resilience in the face of many challenges.
The 1.6 million rural residents of Florida face higher rates of poverty and worse health outcomes than those living in urban areas. Rural Floridians face danger and economic disruption from the effects of escalating climate crisis. LGBTQ Floridians and their families and allies are also subject to a hostile legal landscape that creates barriers to healthcare and education. Join us as we speak to these challenges, build community together, and imagine ways forward for LGBTQ Floridians.
End of Year Virtual Briefing
You are invited to join NCLR’s leadership, legal, and policy teams to discuss our work from 2024 and how we are preparing to meet this moment. Participants will have an opportunity to connect with the NCLR team and hear about our continued pursuit of LGBTQ justice. The program will include a Q+A with the speakers. Registration is open to the public.
