NCLR and our partners continue to challenge Florida ban on transgender healthcare
On January 15, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit heard oral arguments in Doe v. Ladapo, a constitutional challenge to Florida’s law and rules that bar families from accessing medical care for their transgender adolescent children and place unprecedented restrictions on care for transgender adults.
Although U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle issued a final ruling overturning the ban on June 11, 2024, the Florida defendants appealed the case to the Eleventh Circuit. Read more about the appeal and hear from our plaintiffs and legal partners.

NCLR Staff Speaking Engagement: National Association of Children’s Counsel
On Thursday, January 23, NCLR’s Senior Youth Policy Counsel, Danny King, will speak at the National Association of Children’s Counsel (NACC) on supporting LGBTQ youth through the Federal Designated Placements Rule.
LGBTQ youth make up about 7-9% of the overall population, but over 30% of youth in foster care, the majority of whom are children of color. In April 2024, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children & Families (ACF) issued the Designated Placement Requirements Under Titles IV-E and IV-B for LGBTQI Children. The rule (in effect since July 1, 2024) requires that agencies implement the rule by October 1, 2026. The rule is a significant step forward in ensuring that LGBTQ youth do not face further harm while in the foster system.
Register for the webinar to learn more about the rule and protecting LGBTQ youth in foster care.
