NCLR Continues to Fight Against Administration's Anti-LGBTQ Executive Orders
NCLR received great decisions last month in both of our transgender military ban cases. In Talbott v. USA, U.S. District Court Judge Ana Reyes issued a nationwide preliminary injunction in NCLR’s challenge to President Trump’s cruel ban on military service by transgender people. Judge Reyes heard arguments on the motion for preliminary injunction on March 12th and issued her decision March 18th, blocking enforcement of the ban while our case goes forward. This American Life covered the case on their March 28th episode. Read more from NCLR VP of Legal, Shannon Minter on the decision.
The government has appealed this ruling and oral arguments will be heard at the US Court of Appeals on Tuesday, April 22nd at 9:30 am ET. A livestream will be available the day of the hearing.
In Ireland v. Hegseth, the New Jersey federal district court granted a Temporary Restraining Order to keep Staff Sergeant Nicholas Bear Bade and Master Sergeant Logan Ireland from being further impacted by the Trump administration’s transgender military ban while a case challenging it in D.C. federal district court moves forward.
National Center for Lesbian Rights LGBTQ Sports Consultant Helen Carroll Inducted into LGBTQ Sports Hall of Fame
The National Center for Lesbian Rights congratulates Helen Carroll on her induction into Sports Equality Foundation’s LGBTQ Sports Hall of Fame. A former NCAA coach, Helen in 2001 launched NCLR’s Sports Project, the first-ever national legal advocacy program for LGBTQ athletes, coaches, and staff, which she led until 2017. As NCLR’s Sports Project Director, Helen helped LGBTQ athletes and coaches obtain pro bono legal representation, conducted educational conferences and panels around the country, and worked alongside NCLR’s attorneys on legal cases involving LGBTQ student-athletes.

Virtual Briefing: The First 100 Days of the Trump Administration
Join NCLR’s legal experts for a discussion on Trump’s impact on the LGBTQ community.
So much has happened in our country and communities since Inauguration Day. It’s been hard to keep up with the scale of change and chaos we’ve witnessed, and stunning to realize Donald Trump has only been in office for nearly 3months.
As we approach 100 days of this administration, NCLR wants to take this time to talk through the decisions that have impacted the LGBTQ community.
Join NCLR for a virtual briefing on Thursday, May 1st at 3pm PT/5pm CT as we cover the executive orders, federal rule changes, proposed congressional legislation, and court rulings from the first 100 days of the Trump administration. You’ll hear from NCLR’s legal staff and have time to ask questions after the presentation. A recording from the event will be shared on our YouTube page following the briefing.
