Yesterday, I was in our nation’s capital with our partners seeking an emergency ruling blocking President Trump’s cruel and senseless ban on military service by transgender people.

In response to repeated questioning from U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes, lawyers representing the government admitted they had no evidence to support the policy’s targeting of transgender service members, thousands of whom have served openly and honorably for many years.

Transgender service members and their families face severe pressure while we await Judge Reyes’s ruling. Our 20 plaintiffs—representing decades of collective service and expertise—are already suffering severe harm from the ban, including denied medical care, halted deployments, forced leave, and looming discharges that will end their military careers.

We are honored to represent these courageous individuals and will not rest until this hateful policy is blocked. Transgender people and their families are an integral part of our society. For decades, NCLR has championed the freedom and equality of transgender people in family law, schools, workplaces, healthcare, prisons, child welfare, and asylum.  We have made enormous progress, but it is gut wrenching to see these critical protections under assault. These relentless attacks are unprecedented in their brutality, scope, and speed. This is an all-hands-on-deck moment, and you can count on NCLR to do our part.

We are redoubling our efforts as the transgender community faces escalating hatred and attacks. Thank you, from the heart, for having our back during this critical moment.
