At NCLR, we have been fighting to end the dangerous and discredited practice of conversion therapy even before we launched our Born Perfect campaign in 2014. Since then, we have passed laws in 20 states and more than 100 localities protecting LGBTQ youth from this harmful practice.
That’s why we are excited today to present Bobby’s Big Problem, co-created by Born Perfect and Enfranchisement Productions. This short film includes an all-star cast including Patton Oswalt, D’Arcy Carden, Jasika Nicole, and RB Butcher.
The video was covered in an exclusive story by Variety.
Written and directed by the award-winning queer artist Carly Usdin, Bobby’s Big Problem exposes the absurdity of conversion therapy.
“We are proud of the work we’ve accomplished so far with 20 states passing conversion therapy bans for minors,” said Born Perfect co-founder Mathew Shurka. “Increasingly, conversion therapists are marketing this abusive practice online. This video is about exposing those efforts and telling the truth about conversion therapy. We made this video to help LGBTQ young people and their families recognize this fraudulent so-called ‘therapy’ when they see it.”
NCLR launched Born Perfect: The Campaign to End Conversion Therapy by passing laws across the country to protect LGBTQ children and young people, bringing lawsuits against conversion therapists, and raising awareness about the serious harms caused by these dangerous practices. We hope this video will help more LGBTQ youth understand they were truly Born Perfect.
