The following is NCLR Executive Director Kate Kendell’s statement about the June 5, 2015 McKinney, Texas pool party that ended with a white police officer pulling his gun on teenagers at the party and throwing a bikini-clad 14-year-old girl to the ground.
“The unprovoked assault of a female black 14-year-old by white Texas police officer Erik Casebolt is the latest racially motivated outrage and a stark reminder, again, of the too often overly aggressive actions by police against victims of color. Our nation is seemingly damaged beyond repair when it comes to issues of race and police abuse. When will enough be enough?”
