Statement of NCLR Executive Director Kate Kendell in response to President Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to the United States Supreme Court.
“Chief Judge Garland was confirmed to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals with broad bipartisan support and has earned a reputation as a careful, moderate and brilliant jurist. He is superbly qualified to serve on our nation’s highest court. We urge the Senate to do its job and move swiftly to confirm his nomination. With so many issues of critical importance pending before the Court, including those affecting millions of women and immigrants, filling the vacancy left by former Justice Scalia should be an urgent priority, and any delay would be unconscionable.”
